simple yoga - find support and encourage settling

through asana, breathing, and meditation

The elements of Simple Yoga

  • Asana

    The postures of yoga

We practice asana to strengthen the body, increase mobility, and find space. Simple Yoga is accessible and adaptable. There are always variations and modifications to make the practice most sustainable to you. That is not to say that Simple Yoga is easy. Simple Yoga explores the equilibrium between supportive & gentle vs challenging & uncomfortable poses to awaken the body and become more resilient.

  • Breathing

The body’s vital force of life

Pranayama (yogic breathing) is practiced to stabilize and rejuvenate the body. Simple Yoga offers breathing practices and methods that you can incorporate into your daily life. Many of these breath practices are simpler than technical pranayama. These practices encourage awareness of the breath and its affect on the body - not simply focusing on the result, but the practice as a whole.

  • Meditation

    Stillness

Meditation is one of the greatest tools to encourage settling in the body and mind. Simple Yoga explores awareness of the self (thoughts, the breath, feelings, sensations), as well as the practice of metta (loving kindness). Through meditation, the person learns to embrace the components of the self. With consistent practice, one gains greater insight on staying present, settling the mind, and accepting the daily fluctuations of the body.

About Simple Yoga

Simple Yoga is a practice of finding support to settle the body through asana, breathing, and meditation. The foundational element of Simple Yoga is support - finding and using resources to more greatly settle the body. Support can be many things - the ground, the air, a blanket or block, a person or teacher.

Simple Yoga uses support to build strength, increase mobility, and become more resilient through a focused practice that encourages centeredness and ease.

Solaluna Center for Movement (Oberlin, OH) is the home of Simple Yoga. The technique and studio were founded by Eric Stewart, who continues to teach and run Solaluna.

For all others, faith, energy, mindfulness, integration, and wisdom form the path to realization.
